Meet Zach Sheppard

Zach built Onyx Lending Group with one goal—to bring discipline and humanity back to the mortgage process. With years of experience across markets and a passion for clarity, he leads a team that values speed, precision, and care. Clients know Zach for his steady guidance, plainspoken honesty, and calm confidence when things get complex.

Zach Sheppard brings over a decade of mortgage experience and a steady, disciplined approach to every loan. His career began in relationship banking at The National Bank of Indianapolis before moving into mortgage lending, where he spent nearly seven years with Caliber Home Loans refining his expertise in purchase transactions and client strategy. He went on to hold senior and executive roles at NOVA® Home Loans and Draper and Kramer Mortgage Corp., before founding Onyx Lending Group — a firm built on the principles of clarity, trust, and precision.

Zach graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing and a Minor in Spanish, a background that sharpened his ability to communicate complex ideas clearly — a skill he now uses daily to make mortgages make sense for his clients.

Outside the office, Zach values time with family and friends, enjoying life between Colorado and Indiana, where he stays connected to the communities he serves. Whether he’s helping a first-time homebuyer or structuring a complex loan scenario, Zach’s leadership is defined by calm confidence, direct communication, and genuine care for the people behind every file.
